Sri Lankan batsmen came to bat with flying colors. No one was expecting what had just happened: Pakistani bowlers remove five Sri Lankan batsmen all of a sudden, including the in-form Karunaratne. Wahab Riaz removed three batsmen in 3.3 overs before umpires signaled the third day’s end. Yasir Shah bowled seven overs while Abbas delivered four overs; both removing one batsman each. It will be Wahab, the left armed speedster, who will remain under the spotlight on day 4.
Pakistan lost their first wicket at 61 runs, and then lost more three wickets in only 48 runs. The pair of Azhar and Shafiq tried to rebuild the innings and take control, but Lakmal’s swinging delivery caught Shafiq’s edge. He was caught at first slip. Then Babar Azam became a victim of Herath, although it was his own mistake; trying to play Herath against the spin. Haris Sohail once again tried to rescue his side and hit a steady half century, but he was trapped leg before wicket by Perera. He should be credited for his efforts in both the first game and now in the first innings.
